Protection programs are threatened by poaching and many argue that there is not enough enforcement in protected areas to adequately protect wildlife. A decrease in enforcement during the year 1977 resulted in a substantial increase in poaching and decline in various species (5). Strong enforcement efforts are needed to effectively protect vulnerable species like the black rhino and Javan rhino. Due to expanded budgets and anti-poaching patrols, poaching is decreasing and susceptible species like the black rhino have been able to start the road to recovery.
More protected areas are needed for rhinoceros species and many other endangered species of Africa and Asia. Countries that are in the rhino’s range of natural habitat need to adapt a strict conservation program for the rhinoceros species. Each individual critically endangered rhino and the rhino’s habitat needs protection. This will allow the various species to recover naturally and more available protected land will ultimately protect other species of Africa and Asia in the process. This program should include protected areas, budgets that allow strict patrols, and strict penalization for those who do not comply with the law.
The rhinoceros is truly on the verge of extinction and require immediate action and protection from humans.
